Bromine (0.30 mL, 6 mmol) was slowly added dropwise to a stirring solution of (3,6-difluoropyridin-2-yl)hydrazine (435 mg, 3 mmol) in trichloromethane (6 mL) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred at 60°C for 1 hour. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was cooled to 0°C and saturated sodium bicarbonate solution was added slowly and dropwise. Subsequently, dichloromethane was added for extraction, and the organic layer was separated, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered, and the solvent was removed by vacuum evaporation to afford 2-bromo-3,6-difluoropyridine (600 mg, 88% yield), the product being a dark colored oil.
