  In a dry reactor, a mixture of palladium acetate (0.518 g, 2.3 mmol, 1.0 eq.) and 2-aminobiphenyl (0.429 g, 2.5 mmol, 1.1 eq.) was added to anhydrous toluene (13.5 mL). The resulting reaction mixture was stirred at 60 °C for 60 min under an inert atmosphere. During stirring, the red color in the reaction system faded and a gray precipitate formed. After the reaction mixture cooled to room temperature, the toluene was removed using a syringe. The remaining solid was then washed with anhydrous toluene (3 × 3.0 mL), and the resulting precipitate was suspended in acetone (anhydrous, degassed by CaCl2 distillation, 13.5 mL). Lithium chloride (0.293 g, 7.0 mmol, 3.0 eq) was then added to the reaction system. Under argon protection, the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour, during which a reddish-brown suspension was observed to slowly form. XPhos ligand (0.990 g, 2.1 mmol, 0.9 eq) was then added to the reaction system over 5 minutes. The resulting reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2.5 hours. After the reaction was completed, about 90% of the solvent was removed from the reaction system under vacuum. The residue was then washed with methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) (4.0 mL) and pentane (10.0 mL). The reaction system was placed at 0 °C for 1 h. The solid obtained was collected by filtration and dried under vacuum to obtain XPhos Pd G2.
