CI 77742 is classed chemically as an inorganic colour (see also INCI name: Manganese Violet).

Manganese violet, also known as Pigment Violet 16, is a purple powdered chemical with low tinting and hiding power and a pH range of 2.4 to 4.2. It is non-toxic. It has excellent acid resistance but poor alkali resistance, and moderate oxidation and reduction resistance. It exhibits excellent weather resistance, light resistance, and weather resistance. It exhibits no bleeding or color shifting. A 10% aqueous slurry of the pigment exhibits a slightly purple color. It is primarily used in cosmetics manufacturing, such as eyeshadow, eyebrow pigment, and lipstick. Typical physical properties of manganese violet include a density of 2.6 to 3.0 g/cm??, an oil absorption of 20 to 30 g/100 g, a pH of 3.4 for a 10% slurry, an average particle size of 1.0 to 1.8 μm, and a 325 mesh sieve residue of 0.1%.

Ammonium manganese(3+) diphosphate is mainly used as a colorant in cosmetics and skin care products. It has a risk factor of 1, making it relatively safe to use. It generally has no effect on pregnant women and is not acne-causing.

Nonflammable

Manganese violet (MnNH4P2O7) is manufactured by heating manganese dioxide with ammonium dihydrogen phosphate and water. Phosphorous acid is added and the mixture is heated until the violet color  is developed.
