This is a Chinese herb “nan sha shen”, also known as American silver to proot,which is used to nourish the yin. It is commonly used for the lungs, to clear up lungheat, dissolve phlegm, and relieve coughs (You Li 2010). According to traditionalChinese medicine, Adenophora is sweet, slightly bitter, and cold, and its main functionsare to treat coughs, bronchitis, and pulmonary infections (Sahashi 2005).
