Studies indicate vasoconstrictive properties but there are no clear benefits identified for the application of butchers broom extract (Ruscus aculeatus) in skin care. Some sources cite it as having slimming, anti-cellulite and diuretic effects, potentially because of an indication for edema, as well as anti-itching properties. Its constituents include flavonoids that help strengthen blood vessels and capillaries, as well as saponins, sterols, and coumarins. Butchers broom is a low, shrubby evergreen plant of which the herb and the root are used.
