Cicletanine is an antihypertensive diuretic indicated for the treatment of essential
hypertension. Its unique mechanism of action is thought to involve the decrease of
peripheral resistance and increase of venous compliance without modification of arterial
diameter and venous tone. Chemically cicletanine belongs to a series of furopyridhes not
associated with any currently known pharmacological classes.
