Ulinastatin is a trypsin and serine protease inhibitor. It exerts its protective effects as well as stabilising lysosomes and cell membranes by inhibiting various serine proteases. Ulinastatin has neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, antioxidant, and anticoagulant effects. It is used in the treatment of diseases such as alcoholic pancreatitis, acute pancreatitis, sepsis, circulatory shock and systemic inflammatory response syndrome, including burns and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)[1].
