Used as an intermediate for the herbicide bensulfuron-methyl.
Synthesis
o-methoxycarbonyl benzyl sulfonyl chloride is prepared by reacting o-methoxycarbonylbenzyl isothiourea salt with chlorine gas in water for about 3 hours and then stirred for 1 hour.
