2-Bromo-4-chlorotoluene

Colorless to pale yellow liquid

2-Bromo-4-chlorotoluene serves as a precursor for synthesizing 2-bromo-1-bromomethyl-4-chlorobenzene (also known as 2-bromo-4-chloro-benzyl bromide) via bromination with N-bromosuccinimide in the presence of azobisisobutyronitrile[3].

2-Bromo-4-chlorotoluene is produced by the reaction of bromine with chlorotoluene in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and sodium periodate. The reaction takes place at room temperature, producing a colourless liquid with a pungent odour.
