The general procedure for the synthesis of 1-morpholino-1-cyclohexene from morpholine and cyclohexanone is as follows: to a solution of morpholine (10.5 mL, 0.12 mol, 1.2 eq.) in anhydrous toluene (70 mL) was added cyclohexanone (10.4 mL, 0.10 mol, 1.0 eq.), followed by the addition of p-toluenesulfonic acid (0.20 g, 1.16 mmol. 0.016 eq.) as a catalyst. The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 5 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction solution was cooled and subsequently concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the target product 1-morpholino-1-cyclohexene in 85% yield.
