USE
Nitric acid (HNO3) is an important industrial acid used to alter or produce many products such as fertilizers and explosives. It reacts with ammonia to produce ammonium nitrate, an important commercial chemical. It is used for nitrating numerous other compounds to produce nitrates. Nitricacid is used to produce adipic acid (C6H4O10), which is used in the production of nylon (seeNylon).
