N-Arachidonyl maleimide is a highly potent and irreversible inhibitor of Monoglyceride Lipase (MAG lipase) which covalently binds to a cysteine residue located near the fatty acid binding site. N-Arachidonyl maleimide selectively prevents metabolic inactivation of 2-arachidonoylglycerol and increases the potency in vitro in mouse cerebellum.
