Atrial Natriuretic Peptide EIA Kit has been used to measure ANP levels in diabetes mellitus patients.
Definition
ChEBI: Carperitide is a polypeptide.
General Description
The ANP Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA) Kit is an in vitro quantitative assay for detecting ANP peptide based on the principle of Competitive Enzyme Immunoassay. EIA-ANP-1 targets the common sequence of human, mouse and rat, and thus may be used to detect ANP expression in all these species with high specificity and sensitivity.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is a polypeptide hormone released in response to atrial dilation and it stimulates diuresis, natriuresis and vasorelaxation. ANP acts as an inhibitor of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) pathway. It also has a major role in body fluid homeostasis and maintenance of blood pressure. Binding of ANP to receptors on target cell stimulate the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (GMP). Overexpression of ANP leads to congestive heart failure in the human. Experimental studies show that ANP can be used as a therapeutic for stimulating angiogenesis in ischemic tissues. N-terminal ANP prohormone functions as a biomarker for asymptomatic systolic left ventricular (LV) dysfunction, congestive heart failure and cardiovascular mortality.
