Dibutyl Fumarate is a transisomer of Di-Bu maleate (DBM), which is widely used as a plasticizer for industrial application and enhances contact sensitization to fluorescein isothiocyanate in mice.
Uses
Dibutyl fumarate is used as a comonomer for the production
of polystyrene.
Production Methods
Dibutyl fumarate is produced by direct esterification of n-Butanol with Fumanc acid.

Safety Profile
Poison by
intraperitoneal route. Mildly toxic by
ingestion and skin contact. An eye, skn, and
mucous membrane irritant. Combustible
when exposed to heat or flame; can react
with oxidizing materials. To fight fire, use
foam, CO2, dry chemical. When heated to
decomposition it emits acrid smoke and
fumes.
