Biological Activity
Neuron derived neurotrophic factor (NENF) or GIG47 as an oncogene plays a crucial role in human tumorigenesis. It is highly expressed in various human cancer tissues, such as uterine cervix cancer, lymphoma, colon, lung, skin, leukemia and even breast cancer. Neudesin acts as a neurotrophic factor in neurons and undifferentiated neural cells. The neurotrophic property of this protein is transmitted by the activation of mitogen-activated protein (MAP) and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI-3K) pathways. NENF or neudesin is a primary extracellular heme-binding protein implicated in intercellular signal transduction. In mouse, neudesin plays a vital role in neural cell proliferation and neuronal differentiation.
