The oil is present in hops in amounts of approximately 0.5%; yields after distillation range around 0.25%. The oil exhibits different physical–chemical constants depending on the source.

Essential oil composition
The oil contains β-myrcene, dipentene, α- and β-carophyllene, humulone, linalool, methyl nonyl
ketone and other substances (Burdock, 1997). The volatile oil primarily is composed of humulene (α-caryophyllene), myrcene,
β-caryophyllene and farnesene, which account for more than 90% of the oil fraction.
