Biotin-(ring-6,6-d
2), an isotope-labeled analog of biotin, is also known as vitamin H (vitamin B
7). It is a water-soluble vitamin B essentially involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and in gluconeogenesis. Biotin is found in plants and animals and its deficiency potentially causes retardation in growth, alopecia and neurological impairment.
