Uses
Ceanothic acid is a natural product extracted from the jujube plant Z. cambodiana Pierre. The jujube plant Z. cambodiana Pierre is widely distributed in northeastern Thailand and is a traditional medicine used to fight infection.
Preparation
The dried root bark of the plant was degreased with hexane, followed by extraction with ethyl acetate and methanol at 50 °C for 50 h. This solvent was used to elute, and compounds 1 to 9 were isolated. 9 was the Ceanothic acid.
Biological Activity
Ceanothic acid (Emmolic acid) is a homologue of betulinic acid. It inhibited OVCAR-3, HeLa and FS-5 cells with cell viability of 68%, 65% and 81%, respectively.
