Uses
Diethyl Sulfone is a reagent used in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds including of β-ketosulfones. Also used in the preparation of sulfone-based electrolytes for aluminum electrodeposition.
Preparation
Dimethyl sulfone (DMSN) was easily prepared through efficient oxidation of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). A mixture of HNO3/NaOCl was used as an oxidizing agent for efficient oxidation of DMSO to DMSN.
