HClO3S; Farblose bis schwach gelbliche Flüssigkeit von stechendem Geruch. An feuchter Luft stark rauchend.
Gefahren für Mensch und Umwelt
Reagiert heftig mit Wasser zu Schwefel- und Salzsäure; heftige Reaktionen auch mit einigen Metallen und organischen Verbindungen möglich.
Verursacht schwere Verätzungen an Haut und Schleimhäuten. Nach Einatmen der Dämpfe ist mit der Ausbildung von Lungenödemen zu rechnen. Bei Verätzung der Augen besteht Erblindungsgefahr. Nach Verschlucken: Schleimhautirritationen im Mund, Rachen, Speiseröhre und Magen-Darmtrakt. Für Speiseröhre und Magen besteht Perforationsgefahr.

Schutzmaßnahmen und Verhaltensregeln
Vor Feuchtigkeit schützen. Arbeiten im Abzug durchführen.
Säurefeste Schutzhandschuhe nur als kurzzeitigen Spritzschutz verwenden.
Verhalten im Gefahrfall
Mit flüssigkeitsbindendem Material aufnehmen (z.B. Universalbinder, Sand, Kieselgur) und in gut verschließbare Behältern der Entsorgung zuführen.
Bei Auftreten von Dämpfen: Atemschutzfilter ABEK.
Kohlendioxid, trockener Sand, Pulver.
Substanz nicht mit Wasser löschen.
Erste Hilfe
Nach Hautkontakt: Sofort gründlich mit sehr viel Wasser abwaschen. Abtupfen mit Polyethylenglykol 400.
Nach Augenkontakt: Sofort bei geöffnetem Lidspalt mit viel Wasser gründlich ausspülen (mind. 10 Min.) und unverzüglich Augenarzt aufsuchen.
Nach Einatmen: Für Frischluftzufuhr sorgen. Ggf. Atemspende oder Gerätebeatmung.
Nach Verschlucken: Sofort viel Wasser trinken lassen. Nicht erbrechen (Perforationsgefahr).
Nach Kleidungskontakt: Kontaminierte Kleidung sofort entfernen.

Dangerously incompatible with combustible materials, nitrates, chlorates, metallic powders, carbides, picrates, and fulminates. Undergoes possibly violent reactions with acetic acid, acetic anhydride, acetonitrile, acrolein, acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, alkali, allyl alcohol, allyl chloride, ammonium hydroxide, aniline, butyraldehyde, cresol, cumene, diethyleneglycol methyl ether, diisopropyl ether, diphenyl ether, ethyl acetate, ethyl acrylate, ethylene chlorohydrin, ethylenediamine, ethylene glycol, glyoxal, hydrocarbons (hexane, heptane), hydrogen peroxide, isoprene, powdered metals, methyl ethyl ketone, propylene oxide, vinyl acetate. When heated to decomposition, Chlorosulfonic acid emits toxic fumes of hydrogen chloride and oxides of sulfur [Sax, 9th ed., 1996, p. 831]. Reaction with phosphorus accelerates out of control and culminates in an explosion [Heumann, K. et al., Ber., 1882, 15, p. 417]. Mixing chlorosulfuric acid and 98% sulfuric acid may evolve HCl [Subref: Anon, Loss Prev. Bull. 1977, (013), 2-3].
