Later, it was discovered that lupeol was the substance found in Chrysanthemum extracts, responsible for the anti-lymphoma activity produced by methylene chloride fractionation. The active ingredient in long pepper, piperlongumine, produced a similar outcome by suppressing Myc and NF-κB activities and several downstream target genes; this substance increased apoptosis and decreased cell proliferation in human Burkitt's lymphoma cells, which is a transgenic mouse model.
