The general procedure for the synthesis of 2-methyl-6-vinylpyridine and 2,6-divinylpyridine (CAS:1124-74-9) from 2,6-dimethylpyridine and formaldehyde over modified ZSM-5 catalyst was as follows: the Cs-ZSM-5 catalyst (SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio of 30, Cs loading of 3 wt%) was filled in a Pyrex reactor with an inner diameter of 20 mm and 30-40 cm in length in a Pyrex reactor, and the catalytic zone was heated to 300 °C. Subsequently, 2,6-dimethylpyridine and formaldehyde were added to the mixture from the top of the reactor in a molar ratio of 4:1, with a controlled gravimetric airspeed of 0.5 h-1. After 6 h of reaction, the conversion of 2,6-dimethylpyridine was 37.1%, and the selectivities of 2,6-divinylpyridine (2,6-DVP) and 2-methyl-6-vinylpyridine (2M6VP) in the liquid products were, respectively, 25.2% and 74.8%. 25.2% and 74.8%.
