What is Lactoferrin?

Jan 14,2022

Lactoferrin is an immune protein that exists in human milk and various secretions, with the highest content in breast milk, which is why it is often said that babies who drink breast milk will have better resistance. In many developed countries, lactoferrin has already attracted the attention of many experts. Moreover, the United States Food and Drug Administration [FDA] allows lactoferrin to be used as a food additive in sports and functional foods. At present, this substance has been widely used in dairy products abroad.

It has the functions of bactericidal and bacteriostatic, antiviral, immune regulation, antioxidation, adjusting intestinal flora and promoting the growth of bifidobacteria.

1. Regulate the immune system

Lactoferrin can bind to receptors on intestinal cells, dendritic cells and lymphocytes, stimulate the proliferation and differentiation of intestinal mucosal cells, and promote the development and maturation of the intestinal immune system; lactoferrin can also promote the development of immune cells. Maturation and activation, promote antibody production, regulate and improve the body's immune response.

2. Promote iron absorption and prevent anemia

We all know that iron is an important component of hemoglobin and plays an important role in infant growth and development. In order to prevent iron deficiency anemia, the state has also made standard requirements for the content of iron in formula milk powder.

Lactoferrin can improve the bioavailability of iron ions in the intestine, improve the absorption rate of iron, enhance hematopoietic function, and effectively prevent anemia in infants and young children.

3. Antibacterial and antiviral

In addition, lactoferrin can exert its activity in the intestine through direct action on pathogens, help infants and young children resist harmful microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses, and prevent and reduce the incidence of common diseases in infants such as respiratory infections, diarrhea, and enteritis caused by viruses. .

4. Promote the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria

Lactoferrin is added to milk powder, which is closer to breast milk, strengthens immune factors, and increases its immune function. It can promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestine, help infants and young children resist Escherichia coli, reduce diarrhea, enteritis and other common diseases of infants caused by microorganisms such as viruses, and build the first line of defense in life.

Lactoferrin, a pure natural substance extracted from access, has many functions and is safe and reliable. If it is effectively and reasonably applied to ordinary infant formula milk powder, its nutritional content is close to that of breast milk, which can satisfy the growth and development of infants and young children. The nutritional needs of non-breastfed infants are particularly important.
