What is Phenibut?
Phenibut, according to Wikipedia Introduction, a derivative of the naturally occurring inhibitory neurotransmitter-GABA (Gamma-Aminobutryic Acid). The addition of the phenyl ring gives phenibut the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. Unlike GABA, because of the added phenyl group, phenibut is able to easily cross the blood brain barrier, and can consequently exert its functions more effectively on the brain. It has been reported that phenibut is able to improve mental performance as well as reduce anxiety and improve sleep.
Phenibut HCl is a white crystalline powder and the taste is very sour. It is readily soluble in water, soluble in alcohol, and the pH of a 2.5% water solution is between about 2.3 and 2.7.
Discovered in the Soviet Union in the 1960s Phenibut has been said to have nootropic actions, for its ability to improve neurological functions. Phenibut is generally accepted to also have anxiolytic functions in both animals and humans. It is used in Russia as a neuropsychotropic drug, and in the Soviet Union has been used to treat a wide range of ailments including PTSD, anxiety, and insomnia.
How does phenibut work?
The pharmacological effects of phenibut are similar to baclofen, but less potent per milligram of dosage.Phenibut exerts its effects by being an agonist at the metabotropic GABAB receptor, and at higher doses also at the ionotropic GABAA receptor.
Furthermore, phenibut has been shown to enhance levels of dopamine. Phenibut (beta-phenyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a derivative of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). Unlike GABA, however, Phenibut can easily pass through the blood-brain barrier and bind to the GABA receptors in the brain. Compounds that bind to GABA receptors (alcohol, benzodiazepines) can significantly reduce anxiety, produce moderate levels of euphoria and induce sleep in higher doses. Any compounds that tickle the GABA receptors, however, usually produce a fast tolerance. In short, Phenibut binds to the GABA receptors in your brain (similar to alcohol and prescription anti-anxiety compounds).
Benefits of taking Phenibut supplements:
Phenibut has a rich and impressive history. After it was first discovered, it was soon widely used in the USSA, and was even a mandated addition to the kits of Soviet Cosmonauts. Phenibut is used by many bodybuilding fans, bodybuilders in sports nutriotn supplements.
1.Phenibut benefits for Sleep
The most commonly application for phenibut over the recent years is its use as an anti-anxiety drug and sleeping aid. It has been well documented that phenibut improves sleep quality and duration as well as having a calming effect that is not a result of sedative effects. Such calming and improved sleep as a result of phenibut supplementation may be beneficial for bodybuilders as growth hormone is secreted during periods of deep sleep, while sleepand rest is also very important for a recover.
2.Phenibut benefits for Mental Performance as nootropic
Animal studies have shown that mice given phenibut resulted in significantly improved reaction times when given a stimulus to respond to. Furthermore, treated animals performed better at other mental performance test
3.Phenibut Benefits for Feelings of Wellbeing
Dopamine is a hormone that is responsible for feelings of wellness and joy, especially after an accomplishment. Phenibut is known to stimulate dopamine receptors, which may result in similar feelings of general wellbeing. Animal studies showed that rabbits showed better signs of coping when challenged with emotionally negative situations after given phenibut. Thus, phenibut may be a helpful supplement during periods of stress.
Phenibut is commonly used for:
Anxiety
Social Anxiety/Social Behavior
Improved Stress Levels
Insomnia and Restful Sleep
Mood & Relaxation
Improved Sense of Well Being
Improved Awareness and Concentration
Intellectual Function
Fatigue Reduction
Phenibut Negatives & Side Effects
A potential negative is that research on this ingredient has been primarily performed in Russia. It is therefore difficult to find well designed studies, especially those performed on humans, written in English. It will be interesting to review such findings in the future.
Phenibut has been used widely in Russia for decades and shows a good safety record, especially when compared to alternatives such as benzodiazepine. However, there have been reported cases over the recent years of people developing tolerance towards the effects of phenibut, which results in higher doses, and ultimately, withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms are said to be similar to benzodiazepine withdrawal, including insomnia, hallucinations, and anxiety. It is therefore recommended that doses should not be elevated, especially beyond that of recommendations.
Phenibut Recommended Doses & Ingredient Timing
The recommended dose is around 250 mg, taken as needed. Generally, for enhancing sleep, it is recommended that phenibut is to be taken around two hours before bed. Given the tolerance associated with phenibut, it is also to cycle its use.
Phenibut Supplements
Phenibut can be found as a stand-alone supplement used to treat insomnia, anxiety, or other disorders. It can also sometimes be found as an ingredient in growth hormone supplements. The addition of phenibut to an amino acid mixture designed to promote growth hormone release during sleep works in synergy to maximise this effect.
Stacking Phenibut
Phenibut can be stacked with supplements intended for use before sleep. These include growth hormone supplements andmicellar casein. However, do not stack phenibut with other sedatives and supplements designed to promote sleep unless under the direction of a health care professional.
How long does phenibut last?
The effects of Phenibut can last up to 24 hours. However, this does depend on the dosage. For example, taking smaller doses for minor stress relief or sleep (typically 250 – 500 mg as needed), one is likely to experience the calming effect of phenibut for a few hours.
The recommended dosage for social anxiety (listed above) can have effects lasting for up to 24 hours; when taking this dosage, you are likely to go to bed at night and wake still enjoying the benefits of phenibut.
Also, it is important to keep in mind that depending upon your body’s natural metabolism, your tolerance to Phenibut, etc. the duration of the effects of Phenibut may last longer or for shorter amounts of time.
It is best to begin with our recommendations and then adjust accordingly to what works best for you.
You may require more or less than the recommended dosage on this site. However, until you know how Phenibut is going to effect you, it is best to stick with what we have recommended here
