Usage
Preserving wood, as mordant in dyeing, manufacture glazes for painting on porcelain, as a reagent in testing for albumin, tannin, urobilin, phosphate, blood.

Ingestion
Induce vomiting, followed by prompt and complete gastric lavage, cathartics, and demulcents.
Inhalation
Move to fresh air; if exposure is severe, get medical attention.
Skin
Wash with soap and water.
Eyes
Flush with water for at least 10 min.; consult physician if irritation persists.

Handling and Storage

Storage
Do not store exposed to direct light. Do not allow moisture or water contamination of product. Store in closed containers in a dry, well-ventilated area.
Handling
Containers of this material may be hazardous when emptied. Since emptied containers retain product residues (vapor, liquid, and/or solid), all hazard precautions given in the data sheet must be observed. Avoid creating and breathing dust. Use dustless systems for handling, storage, and clean up so that airborne dust does not exceed the PEL. Use adequate ventilation and dust collection. Practice good housekeeping.

Ingestion - zinc salts (especially zinc sulfate) produce gastritis ranging from a burning pain in the mouth and throat to intense gastric and substernal pain, strictures, violent vomiting, diarrhea, shock, and possible death.

Accidental Release Measures

Small spills/leaks
Keep material out of water sources and sewers. Build dikes to contain flow as necessary. Land spill: Dig a pit, pond, lagoon, holding area to contain liquid or solid material. Cover solids with a plastic sheet to prevent dissolving in rain or fire fighting water. Water spill: Neutralize with agricultural lime (CaO), crushed limestone (CaCO3), or sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3). Add soda ash (Na2CO3). Adjust pH to neutral (pH=7). Use mechanical dredges or lifts to remove immobilized masses of pollutants and precipitates.
